The SureFire Outdoorsman series flashlights are new to the SureFire line. The SureFire E1L is powered by one SureFire lithium battery and offers a single level of SureFire LED light, operated with a click-on tailcap. The light source is a single-die 3 watt SureFire Luxeon LED producing 25 lumens of light (brighter than a 2 D-cell flashlight). The SureFire Outdoorsman models are CNC machined from aerospace-grade aluminum with a natural hard anodized finish made to Type III MilSpec standards. The flashlights are O-ring sealed against moisture and come with black oxide coated stainless steel SureFire pocket clips that easily clip to the bill of a ballcap to make it into a hands free lamp. The SureFire E1L flashlight is perfect for any "extreme" outdoor activity - or a good companion for taking out the trash at night!

TRUE STORIES It Takes a SureFire to Find One On a recent riding trip, I was undoing a pair of hobbles around my horse 's ankles (hobbles keep a horse from running off while grazing) in the dark. I had my brand-new SureFire E1L Flashlights clipped to the brim of my hat so I could easily see what I was doing. Well, no sooner had I removed the hobble and clicked off my E1L by Sure Fire, when the horse got spooked and lunged, kicking me in the head and sending my SureFire E1L flashlight flying off my hat brim into the darkness. Woozy as I was, I had enough faculties to know that losing my brand-new SureFire flashlight in the darkness and tall grass was not an acceptable prospect, so I began looking for my flashlight on my hands and knees in the dark. But my search was in vain. Then my buddy, who'd brought along two SureFire's of his own, lent me his SureFire M6 flashlight, while he searched the area with one of the SureFire A2 Aviator Flashlights . After the 500 lumens of the M6 by SureFire lit up the ground, I found my SureFire E1L Outdoorsman within seconds, about six feet from where the horse and I had been standing. I was so happy and, truth be told, a little reluctant to give my buddy his M6 flashlight back. But since he was the one who gave me one of the SureFIre E1L Outdoorsman personal flashlights in the first place, that wouldn't have been right, now would it have? The moral(s) of the story: (1) Don't turn your flashlight off until you've cleared your horse's kicking range and (2) Only flashlights by SureFire are bright enough to find another SureFire in the pitch dark. Thanks for making such a great line of flashlights. I foresee one of the SureFire M6 personal flashlights in my future. Jeff D. Germantown, MD — — — Change a Flat in Nothing Flat I purchased my SureFire E1L Outdoorsman about six months ago. The E1L by SureFire is indeed an excellent flashlight with small size and great light output. I always carry this flashlight with me. There was a snowstorm a few nights ago in Ontario, Canada, and while I was driving home, I had a flat tire. I had to pull over and change the tire in the snowstorm on a small countryside road, surrounded by complete darkness. I clipped the SureFire E1L to the brim of my baseball cap, so I could light up the tire and have both hands free. The whole process took about half an hour, and the E1L flashlight performed its duty perfectly. These amazing SureFire flashlights really saved me. Thanks for producing such dependable flashlights, SureFire. Yu-Jen C. Ontario, Canada — — — SureFire is Great Bait for Fishermen I just recently got back from vacationing in Spain with my family. Well one night we all decided to have a picnic on the beach in Valencia. We watched the sunset and my wife, father, and sister decided to go check out the surf. It being dark I handed my father my SureFire Outdoorsman flashlight to navigate by. My mother and I watched them slowly make their way to the surf (which was easy because we could see the E1L flashlight's beam). As they were standing there a group of Spanish fishermen totally went wild over the SureFire flashlight. My sister came running back and said they wanted to know what kind of flashlight it was and where they could get one of these flashlights! Well, they wouldn't give the flashlight back until they had SureFire's website address! So you may be getting a lot of inquires about your flashlights from southern Spain soon! Kelly M. Sacramento, CA — — — Jaws of Life Can't Kill Centurion by SureFire I work for an ambulance company as an E.M.T. in Louisiana. Well, one night we responded to an SUV that had run off the road and into an oak tree. It happened to be a bad wreck, and both of the patients needed to be cut out of the car by the fire dept. This was at 0200 in the morning, and the cops on scene were carrying Mag-Lite flashlights, which we needed. When we went to turn them on, neither of the flashlights by Mag-Lite worked. I went back to my ambulance and grabbed my SureFire Centurion flashlight and SureFIre E1L flashlight. Needless to say, both flashlights worked wonderfully as we worked on our patients, both of whom had fractured femurs. When the fire dept finally got there with the "jaws of life", we were working on our patients. One of the fireman hit my hand, and I looked on in horror as my Centurion flashlight went flying out of my hand and hit the pavement, flashlight lens down, making an awful cracking sound. I picked it up and looked at the flashlight's window...the Pyrex window of the SureFire was cracked! I turned the flashlight on to see if it would still work, and this SureFire still worked wonderfully, which was great, as we had a second patient to go and still needed visibility using flashlights. All I want to say is thanks, SureFire, for making my job that much easier by making such well-made flashlights and bringing light to some very dark places in Louisiana. Stephen S. Ball, LA — — — iFlashlight? This story doesn't contain any life-threatening situations or hidden danger, thankfully. I'm an Apple-authorized repair technician, and I use my SureFires, an E1L Outdoorsman flashlight and an A2 Aviator® flashlight daily. The most novel use I've found for my SureFire Aviator is to trans-illuminate dark LCD displays to check for backlighting problems. When an LCD-based Mac has backlighting problems, the screen may look completely black, but there's actually an image on the display; it's just not visible, due to the malfunctioning backlighting tubes. By firing up the SureFire incandescent bulb of my SureFIre Aviator flashlights, and holding them against the front of the display, I can bounce the light off the back of the reflector panel and make out a dim but visible screen image. If there's a visible image, then it's a backlighting problem, typically an easy fix. If the screen remains dark when the SureFire is shining on it, it's a bad screen. Only SureFire incandescent flashlights seem to have the necessary muscle to trans-illuminate LCD screens. And, for whatever reason, light from an LED flashlight is absorbed more readily by the LCD screen, so LED flashlights don't work for the task. My SureFire flashlights make my job as an Apple repair tech much easier, and many of my customers have remarked on how bright my "little flashlights" are and asked where they can get one of their own. I always give them a short and sweet answer: "Surefire, that's where." Russ W. York, ME return to top |
